 Summary of Carcass Data and Analysis
of Grass-Fed Half-Mashona Steers 

• Half-Mashona steers raised on native grass pasture at Weaver Ranch, near Causey, New Mexico.

• Harvested on October 8 and 10, 2002, by Texas Tech University's Meat Sciences Laboratory.

• Warner/Bratzler Shear Tests and Sensory Panels conducted by Texas Tech's Meat Sciences Laboratory.

• Fatty Acid Profile performed March 2003, by University of Wyoming's Department of Animal Sciences.

• Steers sired by Mashona bulls, a sanga type Bos indicus breed from Southern Africa. Our seedstock came from Zimbabwe as embryos beginning in 1995.

• Dams were commercial beef cows, mostly Angus and Brangus with a little Hereford influence in some individuals.
